Time to Quiz the Renaissance Man

Mondo-prolific Iowa crime novelist Max Allan Collins will be the guest tomorrow, Monday, May 14, on Elizabeth Foxwell’s It’s a Mystery, a production of WEBR radio in Fairfax, Virginia. He’s scheduled to talk primarily about Black Hats, the historical thriller featuring Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, and Al Capone that he recently saw published under the pseudonym “Patrick Culhane.” However, given the breadth of Collins’ entertainment enterprises, I’m hoping that Foxwell will hit him as well with questions about his comic-book work, his new comics-related novel (A Killing in Comics), his soon-forthcoming Ms. Tree novel (Deadly Beloved), the future of series private eye Nate Heller (last seen in Chicago Confidential, 2002), his editing efforts on the left-behind novels of Mickey Spillane, and even his moviemaking endeavors.

Collins is an astute, well-read, thoughtful interviewee (as I know from my own discussion with him some while back). So I expect his appearance on It’s a Mystery to be well worth tuning in. The show is set to be Webcast at 11 a.m. ET. Click here to listen. (If you miss hearing the show live, you should be able to catch the audio clip subsequently at Foxwell’s It’s a Mystery Web site.)
