After skipping his September contribution to Shots, in order to attend a crime-fiction festival in Italy, Mike Ripley returns with
his mid-October “Getting Away with Murder” column. Under his consideration this time: Eric Ambler’s 1940 novel,
Journey Into Fear; reissued mystery yarns by Josephine Tey and A.S. Fleishman; the 10th anniversary of author
Reginald Hill’s demise; and new releases from the likes of C.J. Carey (
Queen High), Oriana Ramunno (
Ashes in the Snow), Peter Papathanasiou (
The Invisible), Maxim Jakubowski (
Black Is the Night), and others. Ripley’s monthly (except when it’s not) column is always well worth perusing.
