This month brings fans of TV private-eye series at least two important 40th anniversaries. On Friday, September 13, 1974, James Garner’s
The Rockford Files debuted on NBC-TV. But just a day before that, at 10 p.m. on
Thursday, September 12, David Janssen’s new ABC series,
Harry O, debuted with an episode titled “
Gertrude.” I’ve written about
Harry O several times on this page (including
here and
here), so I shall refrain from recapping the entire history of that now well-respected program. But I do want to direct your attention to
TV Guide’s 1974 Fall Preview write-up about
Harry O, which can be enjoyed
here.
It's also the 30th anniversary of the groundbreaking "MTV cops" show "Miami Vice," which changed public perceptions about its home city. http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/cultist/2014/09/today_is_the_30th_anniversary_of_miami_vice.php
