The latest "oh, wow! this is great!" book, which may fade into obscurity in ten or fifteen years, will leap to the top. History has shown that winners of such popularity contests don't always, or even often, have real staying power.Richard R.http://brokenbullhorn.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16749171.post-42467585841218599882010-06-30T11:11:21.342-07:002010-06-30T11:11:21.342-07:00I am glad that you posted a list of ones that miss...I am glad that you posted a list of ones that missed the list, especially The Bottoms, Dialogues of the Dead, and Red Leaves. Here are the titles that were on the long-list of best of the decade that didn't make the Barry Award short list:
Reginald Hill, DIALOGUES OF THE DEAD

Lee Child, ONE SHOT

Jasper Fforde, THE EYRE AFFAIR

Arnaldur Indridason, JAR CITY

Joe Lansdale, THE BOTTOMS

Laura Lippman, EVERY SECRET THING

Thomas H. Cook, RED LEAVES

Alexander McCall Smith, THE NO. 1 LADIES DETECTIVE AGENCY

As you can see, there were two that the Rap Sheet bloggers mentioned and the Peter Temple was also considered. My personal favorite, DIALOGUES OF THE DEAD by Reginald Hill didn't make the cut so those who had personal favorites excluded from the final list, join the line. This was very interesting and thanks for doing it. George Easter, Editor of Deadly Pleasures Mystery Magazine.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05972229830790017055noreply@blogger.com
