Aussie Women Rule!

Sisters in Crime Australia has named the winners of its 2013 Davitt Awards, commendations that are intended to recognize “the best crime writing by women.” The prizes were handed out during a dinner held on August 31 in Melbourne, hosted by New Zealand crime writer (and Ngaio Marsh Award finalist) Vanda Symon. These results come courtesy of the blog Fair Dinkum Crime:

Best Adult Novel: Mad Men, Bad Girls and the Guerilla Knitters Institute, by Maggie Groff (Pan)

Best Debut Novel: Mad Men, Bad Girls and the Guerilla Knitters Institute, by Maggie Groff (Pan)

Best Children’s/Young Adult Novel: The Tunnels of Tarcoola, by Jennifer Walsh (Allen & Unwin)

Best True Crime: The Waterlow Killings, by Pamela Burton (Victory)

Reader’s Choice: Tamam Shud: The Somerton Man, by Kerry Greenwood (NewSouth Publishing)

Longlists of contenders in most of these categories were announced in early August. You’ll find those lists here.

I didn't know there was a new book about the Somerton Man! One of my obsessions.
