NBC’s “Mystery Movie” Turns 40:
The Very Private Life of a Very Public Star

In preparation for this story in the June 9, 1973, edition of TV Guide, actor Richard Widmark--then starring in the NBC Wednesday Mystery Movie series Madigan--sat down for an interview with contributing writer Dick Adler. They discussed Widmark’s successes and disappointments in the movies, his love affair with Hollywood’s silent-film era, his hesitation to take on a television series, and his reputation for having the “lowest personal profile in show business.”
