“Sherlock” Afoot Once More

The long wait, by American TV viewers, for the sophomore-season debut of Sherlock, BBC One’s updated version of Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories, is finally coming to an end. As Omnimystery News reports, “the second series of Sherlock episodes will kick off the summer season of Masterpiece Mystery! on May 6th, 2012. Three episodes will air from May 6th through the 20th, adapted from the Holmes stories ‘A Scandal in Bohemia,’ The Hound of the Baskervilles, and ‘The Final Problem’ (filmed as ‘The Reichenbach Fall’).”

If they are doing Sherlock Holmes "death" in the Final Problem, can The Adventure of the Empty House, where Holmes comes back, be far behind?

Shouldn't that be "Scandal in Bohemia" - the story with Irene Adler? Scandal in Belgravia is a Robert Barnard novel.

You're right, John. The title of Conan Doyle's story was indeed "A Scandal in Bohemia." However, I can see why Omnimystery News got this wrong: The episode of Sherlock based on Conan Doyle's tale is apparently going to be retitled "A Scandal in Belgravia" (http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2011/05_may/16/sherlock.shtml). The show's producers like to twist the original titles about a bit, it seems. For instance, the episode based on "The Hound of the Baskervilles" will be titled "The Hounds of Baskerville."

Because this item is supposed to be citing the original names of Conan Doyle's stories, I have corrected "A Scandal in Belgravia" to read "A Scandal in Bohemia." We'll just have to wait to see how the London district of Belgravia figures into the finished episode.

Cheers,
Jeff
