Does Hercule Poirot Need Rescuing?

If you didn’t know it already, there’s a campaign in progress to “save” the ITV-produced series Agatha Christie’s Poirot, which begins its 10th season on PBS this coming Sunday night with the first of three new episodes. (Check your local TV listings for broadcast times).

According to campaign organizer Brian R. Sheridan, this could be the abrupt conclusion of Poirot, unless viewers speak up. Should the show, which stars David Suchet as the ever-natty Belgian detective, vanish after these latest three eps air in the States, it would apparently leave only half a dozen of Christie’s Poirot yarns unadapted. There’s also been speculation that Poirot might be able to hold on, “but on a lower budget scale.” In either event, Sheridan insists that support must be marshaled in the program’s behalf. He supplies information about how to do that in a new Mystery*File post.
