Breaking from tradition, no award for Best Crime Writing in French will be handed out this year. According to Cheryl Freedman, Crime Writers of Canada’s executive director, that’s because “there weren’t enough entries to be able to create a proper shortlist, so we’re holding over this year’s submissions till next year. We’re not happy to have to do this, but we want to retain the integrity of the award.” A list of the existing French submissions can be found here.

The “Arthurs,” as these prizes are known, will be presented to winners on June 7, 2007, at Mysteriously Yours ... Dinner Theatre in Toronto during the 24th annual Arthur Ellis Awards dinner.

Lists of past winners can be found here.

(Hat tip to Lyn Hamilton for bird-dogging these lists on our behalf.)
