Since I can't recall the story now I can't say whether the other covers were as apt as they can given that judging by the covers of most mystery/suspense books released within that same decade or two, most of them tend to peddle the scantily clad women in front than the story inside.Lightheadedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15438507601416513826noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16749171.post-13305099314007135252009-02-10T14:36:00.001-08:002009-02-10T14:36:00.001-08:00I vote for the .45 cent cover.RJRI vote for the .45 cent cover.

RJRAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16749171.post-40914151546563664672009-02-10T14:36:00.000-08:002009-02-10T14:36:00.000-08:00I think Bertha would be considered less than obese...I think Bertha would be considered less than obese today.

RJRAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16749171.post-62825363807472797882009-02-10T05:59:00.000-08:002009-02-10T05:59:00.000-08:00Just when I think your blog can't get any cool...Just when I think your blog can't get any cooler you come up with all these Lam & Cool covers. I found a photograph of a vintage blow torch that bears a marked resemblance to the illustration on this book:

http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/
2544824/2/istockphoto_2544824-old-blowtorch.jpg

I'm going to go ahead and change my description of the device. It makes sense that it should be a blow torch, rather than a tea kettle. If anybody has a different idea of what device is featured on the front of that first book jacket, please let me know.

Cheers,
JeffJ. I've only read the one Gardner that Hard Case put out but I liked it enough to look for others.

Actually, I think that first cover shows a heat torch of some sort.Prof. Hexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07047213795394662298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16749171.post-7350694907557572822009-02-09T18:29:00.000-08:002009-02-09T18:29:00.000-08:00I'm a long-time Cool and Lam fan, but I've never s...I'm a long-time Cool and Lam fan, but I've never seen those first two covers.
